Melissa Fu is an associate in Quinn Emanuel’s New York office.  She maintains a broad litigation practice including complex commercial disputes, intellectual property litigation, cross-border lawsuits, M&A and corporate governance, employment, government investigations, and distressed investment matters, in federal and state courts.  Her practice spans across a wide variety of industries, such as financial services, private equity, technology, AI, crypto and blockchain, healthcare, and gaming.  Melissa represents both companies and individuals through trial, arbitration, and mediation, in relation to breach of contract, financial fraud, founder or shareholder disputes, copyright, patent, and trade secret disputes, and bankruptcy, among others.  As a native Mandarin Chinese speaker and a dual-educated attorney, Melissa also frequently counsels matters that are cross-border in nature, including representing Chinese corporations or individuals in dispute resolution.

Melissa has developed expertise in enabling AI capabilities for complex litigation, including prompt engineering and context architecture to facilitate document review, litigation strategies, and trial preparation.  She also co-authored a whitepaper on agentic AI systems for commercial litigation and served as a speaker on panels including the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) masterclass, where she discusses the Firm’s front-line initiative and her practical experience in high-stakes litigation matters.

In Melissa’s litigation practice, she also draws on her past experience as a corporate associate at another global law firm’s New York office, where she advised private funds, registered funds, and investment managers with fund formation, SEC regulatory compliance and the Investment Advisers Act, annual reports, shareholder disputes, as well as the negotiation of the LPA, PPM, and subscription documents.

Prior to joining the Firm, Melissa received a J.D. degree from Columbia Law School, where she was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and was the Managing Editor of Columbia Journal of Asian Law.  She served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Laura Taylor Swain, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.  She also worked as a research assistant in editing a Restatement for the American Law Institute (ALI).
