The Brussels Office
The firm’s Brussels office specializes in competition law. It is led by Dr. Nadine Herrmann, managing partner Trevor Soames, and partners, Stephen Mavroghenis, and Miguel Rato who joined the firm from Shearman & Sterling.
The firm is unique. Unlike most large, transactional focused European and American firms, we regularly represent clients both sides of the “V” as both plaintiff and defendants. Our lawyers have many years of experience handling major cases for both defendants and plaintiffs/complainants in all aspects of competition law before the European Commission, EU and national courts and regulators.
Team members are experts both in public and private enforcement of national and EU competition law and assist clients with all aspects of competition law, with an emphasis on complex investigations and litigation requiring high level advocacy services, in particular in the high tech, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, life sciences, financial services and transportation sectors. We have deep experience at the intersection of intellectual property and antitrust, especially in relation to standard essential patents and have been involved in many of the most high profile recent cases.
It is becoming increasingly common for regulators on both sides of the Atlantic and Pacific to conduct parallel investigations and enforcement actions. With 21 offices world-wide in 10 countries, our Brussels team is part of an integrated world-wide team. On the European front we are able to offer our international clients a focused EU expertise within the context of a global competition strategy often in conjunction with the firm’s other offices around the world.
NOTE: All our Brussels team lawyers are EU27 qualified and will, therefore retain legal professional privilege and advocacy rights before the EU courts after the UK leaves the EU, as well as being able to continue to practice in Brussels.
