Quinn Emanuel Hong Kong Partner, Duncan Watson, Appointed Queen's Counsel

Duncan Watson, a partner in Quinn Emanuel’s Hong Kong office, has been appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC).  The appointment is by Her Majesty the Queen on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, following consideration by the independent Queen’s Counsel Selection Panel.

The appointment as Queen’s Counsel (also known as “taking silk”) is made in recognition of excellence in advocacy.  Duncan is one of only four international arbitration specialists in this year’s group of 116 new silks, and one of only six solicitor-advocates.  The appointment will take effect in March 2021.

Duncan is the third QC in Quinn Emanuel’s international arbitration group, alongside Stephen Jagusch QC and Michael Young QC.  He is qualified in both Australia and England & Wales, and was recently described by Who’s Who Legal as “certainly among the very best of his generation”.

Duncan said, “Taking silk is humbling and exciting for me personally, and a testament to the success of Quinn Emanuel’s international arbitration practice. I am proud to be part of such a talented team, and grateful for the support, mentoring and trust I have received from my colleagues at QE, as well as from the wider international arbitration community in the Asia-Pacific.”

Stephen Jagusch QC, Chair of Quinn Emanuel’s International Arbitration group, said, “I have had the privilege of working with Duncan on many cases over the years. Duncan is astonishingly quick to master the facts of every case, he considers every conceivable legal angle and he is a calm and formidable advocate. I am delighted for Duncan that he has taken silk and I am tremendously proud to celebrate yet another Queen’s Counsel within the firm’s ranks.”
